Connecting to the Cisco Kit

These steps work for all rooms with a Cisco Kit. This includes the Cisco Kit on a Cart or the Cisco Kit Installed setup.

This path works best for those who:

  • Have a 91猫先生 laptop (you must have a 91猫先生-issued laptop to use this pathway)
  • Do not use breakout rooms or sessions (breakout rooms can cause the connection to disconnect during class)

To connect to the system using the UltraSound Connection, follow these steps:

  1. Be sure you are on the 91猫先生-staff Wifi connection
  2. Touch the Cisco Kit tablet to 鈥渨ake it up鈥 (tablet is located at the front of the classroom)
  3. Open the Cisco WebEx Meetings app on your computer
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the app window and select 鈥淐onnect to a device鈥
  5. If you have to search, the name of the kit is located in the top-left corner of the tablet
  6. Once connected, the name of the device will show up in blue. Select the name of the device
  7. A new window will come up. Select 鈥淪hare on this device鈥

This connection is the most stable and is best for faculty who use breakout sessions, etc.

To connect to the system via Join WebEx, follow these steps:

  1. Be sure you are on the 91猫先生-staff Wifi connection.
  2. Open the Cisco WebEx Meetings app on your computer
  3. Find the meeting (class session) that you want to start, and select it to start the meeting.
  4. Be sure to mute your microphone in WebEx and the speakers on your computer to avoid feedback.
  5. Touch the Cisco Kit tablet to 鈥渨ake it up鈥 (tablet is located at the front of the classroom)
  6. On the tablet, select 鈥淛oin WebEx鈥 (blue circle icon on the right)
  7. On the new screen, there is a search bar at the top. Select that search bar.
    • This is where you will type in the Meeting ID Number
    • To bring up the keypad, look at the bottom left for the icon that looks like a keypad and select that.
    • Then, type in the Meeting ID Number and select 鈥淛oin鈥
    • If you cannot remember the Meeting ID Number, follow these steps:
      • Look at your WebEx meeting
      • Look at the top left of the window and find 鈥淢eeting Info鈥
      • Select 鈥淢eeting Info鈥
      • A box will appear that shows the Meeting ID Number for your class.

This is a very stable way to connect and a good alternative for faculty who prefer Zoom. It is important to note:

  • Faculty must use the 91猫先生 licensed account for Zoom. Personal accounts do not connect to the Cisco Kits
  • There are only 50 kit licenses. That means only 50 faculty can use the kits to teach a class at one time.  You may want to schedule a backup WebEx session just in case you aren鈥檛 able to connect the kit to your Zoom session.
  • If you set passwords for your Zoom class, you must make sure to only use numbers. The Kit is unable to enter letters for passwords, so you will not be able to join the kit to your Zoom class if you have a password that has letters.

To connect the Kit to your Zoom class, follow these steps:

  1. Be sure you are on the 91猫先生-staff Wifi connection.
  2. Open the Zoom app on your computer
  3. Find the meeting (class session) that you want to start, and select it to start the meeting.
  4. Be sure to mute your microphone in Zoom and the speakers on your computer to avoid feedback.
  5. Touch the Cisco Kit tablet to 鈥渨ake it up鈥 (tablet is located at the front of the classroom)
  6. On the tablet, select 鈥淐all鈥 (green button on the left)
  7. On the new screen, there is a search bar at the top. Select that search bar.
    • This is where you will type in the Meeting ID Number
    • To bring up the keypad, look at the bottom left for the icon that looks like a keypad and select that.
    • Then, type in the Meeting ID Number and add 鈥淍zoomcrc.com鈥 Then press 鈥淐all鈥 (green button on the bottom right)
    • If you cannot remember the Meeting ID Number, follow these steps
      • Look at your Zoom meeting
      • Look at the top left of the window and find a small green check mark (some versions of Zoom have a small 鈥渋鈥 icon for info, so you would select that instead.
      • Select the green check box or the small 鈥渋鈥 for info
      • A box will appear that shows the Meeting ID Number for your class.

There are several settings on the camera that you can adjust to create a positive learning experience for your students.

  • To access the camera settings, go to the tablet and touch the camera icon in the top right corner.
  • Check the box for 鈥淪elf-view.鈥 This will allow you to see what the camera is focused on.  The camera view will show up on the display in the back of the room.
  • Presentation Mode: This mode sets the camera to follow you while you are teaching. To get started:
    • Select Presentation Mode in the settings
    • Find the 鈥淴鈥 marked on the ground by the podium. This is the 鈥渢rigger spot.鈥  Stand on the X
    • Look up at the camera and remove your mask. The camera will focus on you.
    • Then you can walk around the front of the room. As long as you stay in the 鈥渟taging area鈥 the camera will continue to follow you.
    • If you leave the staging area and the camera stops following you, just go back to the 鈥渢rigger spot鈥 and remove your face covering for the camera to focus on you again.
  • Preset: You can also set the camera to focus on different spots in the room and have the tablet 鈥渞emember鈥 that setting, so you can adjust the camera angle at the touch of a button.
    • In the camera settings, adjust the camera angle by:
      • Touching the arrow buttons on the when to turn the camera up, down, and to the sides
      • Touching the plus sign to zoom in
      • Touching the minus sign to zoom out
    • Once you have the camera angle just where you want it, look back at the camera settings. To the left of the camera controls is a list of presets (under 鈥減resentation mode鈥)
    • Scroll up until you see 鈥淎dd New鈥
    • Select 鈥淎dd New鈥
    • Type in the name you want to give the preset
    • Select 鈥淪ave鈥 to save it for the future
    • NOTE: You may want to give a generic name like 鈥減odium鈥 for presets that other faculty might use. Use your name if you have a preset that will likely be unique (Murcray_side_table) that you might use for presentations, etc.
