Program Intro

The School Counseling credential prepares candidates to be highly trained in both mental health and education. School counselors help children and youth succeed academically, socially and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments for all students that strengthen connections between home and school.

The Metcalf School of Education enjoys an excellent reputation with school districts across the Inland Empire and maintains strong relationships with district faculty, staff and administrators. As a result, 91猫先生 educators are competitively positioned in the education marketplace.

Program Details

PPS 528: School Counseling Leadership and Advocacy

This course prepares students to serve as advocates for students in the school settings. Leadership styles are explored in order to build capacity around what effective leadership looks like. Students are challenged to analyze several leadership and advocacy-based dilemmas related to school counseling.

PPS 508: The ASCA National Model

This course allows students to identify components that make up the ASCA National Model as well as analyze the different domains they will serve in. By examining several evidence-based best practices, students are able to disaggregate several forms of school data in order to increase student achievement.

PPS 541: Group Counseling

This course prepares students to learn the foundational skills of facilitating a small group as part of a comprehensive school counseling program. This course uses theory and application in the form of role plays, mock scenarios and experiential experiences to teach students how to be an effective group facilitator in today's diverse schools.
